Giancarlo Mattioli

Designer, architect, urban planner, portraitist

Born in 1933 in Bologna, Giancarlo Mattioli is an Italian designer arrived at the success during the years 1950 and ' 60. Giancarlo Mattioli was a designer, architect, urban planner, portraitist, man and intellectual. A pupil at the artistic high school, he never stopped cultivating a passion for drawing a feather sent to him by his masters. He graduated in architecture in Florence. In 1960 he founded the urban architects Group "New Town" together with Pierluigi Cervellati, Umberto Maccaferri, Franco Morelli, Gianpaolo Mazzucato and Mario Zaffagnini. In 1965 the celebrated Nesso Lamp won the first prize at the Artemide Domus Studio competition in Milan. Mattioli died on May 21, 2018.
