Defying the laws of physics, going beyond what we normally understand by the conditions of equilibrium, this bookcase is nothing short of a manifesto for Cassina’s design and construction capabilities. After a lengthy period of research and development, ably assisted by state-of-the-art technology, the company’s designers created a production prototype of the original 1940 piece that architect Franco Albini made as a one-off for his Milan home. Respecting the authentic underlying concept of the design, with its compelling experimental feel, as well as its surprisingly spare, linear looks, today’s model preserves the minimal ideal of the original: a feeling of air and light so that the books and objets seem to float free. Thus does Cassina restore to the contemporary world of design one of its most emblematic artefacts, a piece that has acquired the status of a work of art, as magical now as it was when it was first seen. It is now also available in an exclusive limited edition in ashwood stained black with stainless steel metallic caps and elements.

Part of the Cassina collection since 2004, the Riflesso storage unit created in 1958 by Charlotte Perriand in association with Steph Simon has a new iteration. As in the case of the Tables en forme, which were designed in the 1930s and then upgraded in the 1950s to a more mature configuration, this multifunctional piece is characterised by wooden shelves with rounded edges with a strong Japanese influence, which was a common theme in Perriand’s oeuvre.  As was the case with all her furniture produced during this period, the expressiveness of the material itself became a distinguishing feature, creating soft eye-catching shapes of great elegance. Originally available in just one size and two heights, and only in a black finish, the new version is larger. The piece is available in mahogany, the sliding doors being natural or black anodised aluminium.

These historic storage units, in the collection since 1978, are relaunched with a new look emphasising the features that make this unique furniture with its timeless design versatile, functional and perfect for the organisation of space. The units come in 18 fixed compositions, in two- and three-module versions and in three different types: with open compartments, with two hinged doors or with lover folding door. The wide range of colours—for the bases, external and internal parts of the modules and the doors—makes interesting, elegant solutions possible.

Cutting-edge modularity: Nuage, a family of bookcases and storage units designed by Charlotte Perriand for Cassina.
Charlotte Perriand never sees modularity, the key to modern design, as rigid or aseptic. For her it always combines functionality and aesthetics, managing to completely satisfy user requirements. The compositions for this model range from sideboards, to storage units, freestanding and wall-mounted bookcases, fixed symmetrically or asymmetrically, to self-supporting bookcases for using in the middle of rooms, in natural oak or black oak veneer. The modules can be fitted with doors to close the open compartments, in anodised aluminium or in a wide range of colours, to create alternating hollows and solids.

Designed by Franco Albini in 1956/57 and produced by Cassina from 2008, Infinito is a modular bookcase consisting of vertical supports, storage units with swing and bottom hinged doors, and shelves, available in natural ash wood, dyed black ash and Canaletto walnut finish. Each element of the product was massproduced, allowing for countless possible arrangements, from the supports to the components.
The structure, which does not need to be fixed to the wall, can offer a double surface, namely a partition with two sides containing bookshelves and other storage solutions.

Cassina Infinito

Nuvola Rossa

Simplicity and essentialism are the main characteristics of this bookcase designed by Vico Magistretti in 1977 and produced in the same year. A foldable bookcase which, according to Magistretti’s modus operandi, sprang from an analysis and reinterpretation a product type and the sum of its parts, the sides and shelves. From here, the object was reduced to the diagonal brace elements, used also as a support for the shelves, thus eliminating the sides. Nuvola Rossa is made in natural or black and white painted beech and, more recently, in a red painted version. There is also a Canaletto walnut version.
